sunny california . . . part I

So, I have to claim my Aunt bragging rights and tell you about my niece that absolutely blew my mind while we were in sunny cali. We were all enjoying a perfect evening at the Wave House on mission beach and my 9-year-old niece decided to throw on her wet suit and try out the wave machine. The sun is setting and there is that cold breeze from the ocean in the air and a line full of 20'ish year-old men were standing in line, shivering so hard I thought they might collapse and holding their boogie boards so tight that their knuckles were white. I watched my nice hop in line right behind them and anxiously await her turn. One after another these men would attempt to ride the wave but would only last a few seconds before they were ripped off their boards. Then, oh if you could see the beaming faces of her proud parents, my niece just dives into the wave machine, lands on her board and rides it like a pro not just once, but over and over. She outlasted these men big time and put them all to shame. I was such a proud Aunt and as I was looking through some of these pictures I just couldn't help but give this gal my own little round of applause at um, er-hem, two in the morning.

I also had a funny little story about this one. This Corona will go down in history as my 2-year-olds first beer. Yes, my brother put it down on the fire pit and as he looked a way, my little boy jumped at the chance to gulp it down. Nice move, buddy!

So we spent one evening at the Wave House for dinner and it is such a fun spot and I totally recommend it (more for the atmosphere than the food). It is right off the beach and so you can sit at tables or on benches around a pit and order your food and beverages with your bare feet in the cool sand and your view is, well, the beach. They play fun loud music and the kids have so much fun dancing and snacking. One of my favorite pics is the one of my sis-in-law dancing with all of the kiddos. such a fun time and such great memories.

Love these kid's dance moves:
